Boma Night

The “Place of Eating”, a cultural experience that'll overwhelm your senses with the tastes, sights, sounds & smells of Africa!

Treat yourself to a unique African experience with a buffet dinner under the stars at the Boma restaurant. Nestled in the midst of the Gusu Forest, this thatch establishment with its lively bar and chilled lounging area offers an exceptional dining and dance arena that's partly open to the sky.

"An essentially African experience not to be missed. The Boma is a celebration of Africa's tastes, vibrant song, dance and time-honoured customs."

The evening kicks off at 7pm.  You'll be welcomed with a traditional greeting in the local languages, Shona and Ndebele. You're then dressed in 'chitenges' (traditional robes) and prepared to enter the main enclosure where you'll be invited to take part in a hand washing ceremony before sampling traditional beer and snacks.  Expect to be "face-painted" at some point during proceedings!

At the Boma, you'll be treated to four courses of traditional Zimbabwen dishes including an amazing barbeque buffet. Be sure to taste local delicacies such as warthog steaks and game stews. You can even sample Mopani worms and deep-fried Kapenta (Lake Tanganyika sardines from Kariba) if you feel very adventurous. For vegetarian customers, there is a healthy selection of garden and bush vegetables and salads to try out.

Amakwezi traditional dancers, a local storyteller and a witchdoctor will keep you entertained throughout the night. After dinner, from about 9pm, you'll be invited to drum along to the African beat with a spectacular drumming and dancing show - Amazulu.

If you would like a keepesake of this fantastic evening, there is an on-site shop that sells some of the more frequently requested accessories such as Boma cruet sets, "potjies", polo shirts, "chitenges" and caps. Recordings of the traditional entertainment make good mementos.

If you're staying at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, a courtesy shuttle to/from the restaurant will ensure you don't walk into any local wildlife before or after the night's entertainment.  If you're staying elsewhere in town, transport will be available at a nominal charge.

Don't forget to book in advance as the restaurant is very popular.
