Vic Falls Big Five Safari

A week long luxury safari combining a boutique lodge in Victoria Falls and a private permanent camp in Hwange for a treat second to none

Spend 6 nights away at an awesome price including 3 nights in Victoria Falls plus a sunset cruise and Boma dinner. Having experienced the thrill of standing on the edge of the Falls you'll move on to stay for 3 nights in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's biggest and best known wildlife park and home of the Presidential herd of elephants.

Hwange National Park is named after a local Nhanzwa chief, Hwange Rosumbani. Just two hours drive from Victoria Falls it shelters over 108 mammal species, the highest diversity of mammals of any National Park in the world. Species include 19 large herbivores and eight large carnivores.

Over 400 species of birds have been recorded in Hwange including around 50 different types of raptor. It is home to one of the largest elephant herds on Earth, who visit Hwange National Park as well as Chobe National Park for feeding (population thought to be anything between 20000 to 75000 and up to 110000 in Chobe during the peak dry season).

An easy safari extension is to add 3 nights at a Zambezi river camp or go further afield into th Save Conservation area near Bulawayo, or Chobe and the Okavango in Botswana, or the Luangwa Valley in Zambia.

  • All the facts
  • Where is it?

The safari starts and ends in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Hwange National Park is on the north eastern border with Botswana and part of the same eco-system as Chobe National Park, well-known for extraordinarily large herds of elephants.

What is the best time of year to go?

This is a year round option. The winter months between June to September can be chilly at night but days are clear, sunny and warm. The summer months November to March experience heavy rain storms, usually in the afternoons with hot, sunny weather otherwise.

    How to get there

By air from Johannesburg, Lusaka or Harare. Zimbabwe has an impressive road infrastructure by African standards particularly between the major centres. Car hire is available but expensive. Many regional clients successfully self-drive into Victoria Falls via Zimbabwe, Zambia or Botswana.

The rail network is not extensive, serving Bulawayo and Victoria Falls best. The rail safaris between the two towns are very successful.

    Tips and Notes

    The price includes:

    • Airport transfers
    • 3 nights Victoria Falls boutique lodge bed/breakfast basis
    • Tour of Victoria Falls
