TongabeziLodge luxury river villas

A romantic hideaway just upstream of Victoria Falls, tastefully decorated in African style offering elegant, understated service

Privately owned and run by Ben and Vanessa Parker, Tongabezi Lodge offers impeccable levels of elegant and personal service. It's nestled within a tranquil grove of ebony and acacia trees and features five river cottages and four spacious thatch houses, all with exceptional views of the Zambezi River.

Its magical setting makes Tongabezi the ultimate destination for romance in Victoria Falls and a dream spot for honeymooners. Each of the houses is beautifully designed to create a feeling of privacy and intimacy, with secluded terraces where guests can dine alone beneath the stars.

Guests to Tongabezi can also opt to stay at the exclusive Sindabezi Island Camp, a haven of natural tranquillity just 20 minutes boat ride upstream from Tongabezi. This private island retreat in the middle of the Zambezi River is ideally booked for private groups of up to 8 guests.  It is the only bush camp opposite the Zambezi National Park.

Tangala House is Tongabezi's sister property. This is Ben and Vanessa Parker's luxurious and unique family home just upstream from Tongabezi Lodge.  The house has four bedrooms, three with ensuite bathrooms. Its warm and spacious comfort makes it the ideal choice for families.  The property is fully serviced and staffed.

The lodge is actively involved in the community. In 1996, Vanessa Parker established the Tongabezi Trust School, "Tujatane". The school provides education to the Tongabezi staff children as well as to children from the local community. Tongabezi guests are encouraged to visit Tujatane - the children love welcoming visitors to their school.

  • Tongabezi Lodge

Un-paralleled design: this is the original open-fronted safari lodge. The lodge's award-winning service is run by a highly trained, committed Zambian team. A true introduction to the flavours, aromas and who knows - maybe even a couple of hidden secrets.

    Sindabezi Island Camp

A private island retreat in the middle of the Zambezi River. Ideally booked exclusively for private groups of up to 8 guests. An idyllic, exclusive camp on Tongabezi's private isle on the Zambezi River. It's the only luxury bush camp in the Victoria Falls region and was selected in 2008 by The Sunday Times in London as one of the best remote places to stay in the world.  Sindabezi has only five open-sided thatched chalets, allowing guests to soak up the sights and sounds of the African bush within a perfectly pristine setting. Views across the flood plains of the Zambezi and into the nearby National Park complete the experience.

  • Choices
  • Tongabezi Honeymoons

Tongabezi Lodge is the perfect honeymoon destination. The entire lodge was built with romance in mind. Each of the houses is beautifully designed to create a feeling of privacy and intimacy, with views across the Zambezi River and secluded terraces where guests can dine alone beneath the stars. The friendly, attentive Tongabezi team is on hand to ensure that you enjoy the honeymoon of your dreams. Indeed, each of the houses is allocated a personal valet who's available exclusively to ensure your comfort and arrange your entertainment.

Here're some options to celebrate in style:

    • Enjoy a candlelit dinner floating on a Sanpan in the Zambezi. Every course is delivered to you by canoe.
    • Float along the Zambezi under white cotton sail on an original bleached wood Malawi Dhow.
    • Book a meal or two in The Lookout. Fabulous design, gorgeous views, shore bound exclusivity and absolute comfort.
    • Spend a night or two on Sindabezi Island.

    Livingstone Island

The best place to witness the immense volume of water flowing over Victoria Falls is tiny Livingstone Island, the place where Dr David Livingstone first glimpsed Mosi-oa-Tunya.

Tongabezi runs five trips a day to the island. A twin-engine boat carrying up to 12 people will take you through the fast-moving channels of the Zambezi, a thrilling journey.

Once on the island, you're given a guided tour teaching you about the island's history: from ancient times when it served as a sacrificial site to the present day and its World Heritage status.

To cap the occasion take a perch in the "Devil's Armchair"!
