Islands of Siankaba

This is a haven for the discerning traveller wanting to retreat to a quiet area of exceptional natural beauty after exploring the Victoria Falls.

Siankaba luxury lodge is located on two private islands in the middle of the mighty Zambezi River situated between the Victoria Falls and the Chobe National Park. The islands are linked by a suspension bridge and raised walkways.

The unique design of the lodge incorporates the use of natural materials that blend in with the feel of the surrounding bush while taking full advantage of the beauty of the riverine setting.  Siankaba has been developed as an exclusive and intimate five-star retreat that sleeps just fourteen guests and boasts uncompromising levels of personal service.

The seven secluded chalets, set within the tree canopy, have been uniquely designed to maximize comfort and privacy and are linked by a footbridge to a dining area offering outstanding cuisine. Each chalet features private viewing decks overlooking the ever-changing Zambezi River.  Enjoy the privacy of these viewing decks by settling down with a cold drink from your mini bar, as you watch the Zambezi meander by.

  • All the facts
  • What and Where

The lodge is situated some 38km from the Victoria Falls and is almost equidistant to Chobe National Park in Botswana. It is located on two islands on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River.

The open lounge at Siankaba evokes images of style and elegance in a truly African way and creates an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Enjoy the beautiful forest scenery from the sun loungers next to the sparkling pool or take a cool dip to refresh yourself after a hard day's relaxation!

    Community involvement

From the onset in 1998, the local community was closely involved in the development of the Islands of Siankaba. The success of the lodge was completely dependant on a good 'partnership' with the local community, who were keen for employment and development within the Siankaba area. Environmental awareness has always been a key factor of the lodge. A combination of wood and canvas was used for all lodge structures, creating a 'non permanent' feel to the camp.

The lodge is named after the local headman of the area (Siankaba). His name in the Toka- Leya language means 'witchfinder' as apparently his ancestors were adept at spotting witches in their midst!

    Highlights

A massage suite or 'Ukuchina boma' has been developed as a sanctuary of pure simplicity for those seeking tranquillity and rejuvenation of mind, body and soul.

The 'Ukuchina boma' offers unique, signature treatments using indigenous plant ingredients. Professional massage techniques, facials and body treatments from all over the world are combined with ancient African holistic practices. Therapists follow African traditions by, for instance, using termite mound mud to exfoliate before a deep cleanse with Marula, cocoa and Zambian coffee and moisturizing with aloe vera infused cucumber wraps.
