Highwire
Thought that bungee off Vic Falls bridge was going to fix your taste for adrenaline? Take a 1/2 day for gorge swing, flying fox and zipline
If you thought that bungee jump off Vic Falls bridge was going
to fix your taste for adrenaline then here's a load more!
Take a morning or afternoon out on the Zimbabwean side of
Batoka Gorge and you have the Gorge Swing, Zip Line, Flying Fox and
Rapp Jump to quench things.
It's 5 minutes from Vic Falls town above the second and third
Zambezi gorges. It's also in good view of rapid #4, "Morning
Glory". Even if you don't jump it's better than being at the
circus on a good day!
The Gorge Swing takes the cookie.
You're on the edge of the gorge, harnessed then hooked onto a
highwire 120m above the Zambezi River. It's a leap off the
platform followed by a 70m freefall before the slack is taken up
and the great pendulous swing starts. High fives guaranteed
once you're back at the Lookout above.
The Zambezi Zipline is the longest
in the world. You're harnessed in a seated position and attached to
a pulley then lauched 425m across the gorge. You'll
accelerate to a speed of 106km/hr on the sliding descent. It
should leave your eyes watering.
The "Flying Fox" is either an
appetiser before or a cool-off after your swing and slide. You're
harnessed and attached to a pulley in a face down position then
launched horizontally across a 200m span of emptiness above the
gorge.
The Rapp Jump is a reverse abseil
120m down the sheer face of the gorge. The conventional
option is a regular abseil looking up the cliff face.
