Dawn on the Upper Zambezi River at the Islands of Siankaba.

The "mokoro" ("mokoro" singular, "mekoro" plural, pronounced mö’kaw’rö) is a dug out canoe usually fashioned out of the Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana) which is common in warm riverine areas in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa's north-eastern lowveld.

There is a historic Kigelia specimen growing in the area under which Dr. David Livingstone pitched camp just before he saw Victoria Falls for the first time.  He is said to have carved his initials in the bark...

Dug-out canoes are usually associated with the Okavango Delta in Botswana.  These mekoro however, are used more widely on the Zambezi and Luangwa river systems.
