Elephants at Thorntree River Lodge, Zambia

Thorntree River Lodge has an ancient elephant migration route through the property and is home to Zambia's first habituated herd. 

Thorntree River Lodge offers guests a unique opportunity to interact with the elephants as well as enjoy a ride through the local wilderness.

Rides last approximately one hour and the overall interaction time with the elephants is about 3 hours. Trips are available in the morning and afternoon.

Elephant back trails Elephant Back Trails (Zambia): Thorntree River Lodge is home to a herd of resident elephants on which morning and afternoon rides are done into Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.  Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and other plains game are regularly encountered.  Advance booking is essential.

Elephant back trails Elephant safaris and interactions: Habituated elephants are used in Zimbabwe and Zambia for "elephant back trails" lasting several hours as well as briefer "elephant encounters".  Victoria Falls is arguably the best place in Africa at which these educational trips can be done.  Advance bookings are essential.
